Hess Corp. is Installing Solar Panels on Main St. acreage

The oil giant in Woodbridge expects the solar panels will eventually power up to 25 percent of the energy needs of their Route 9 office building.

It might look like a lot of sticks in the mud, but for it'll soon be a major source of energy for powering their Woodbridge headquarters on Route 9.

The 'stick farm' is the oil company's surveying of land on upper Main Street. They received zoning board approval and wre taking advantage of the relatively mild winter to get the property ready to put up a 1.1 megawatt solar field on the property, a Hess spokeswoman said.

The Hess building, the first major building to be constructed on Woodbridge's Route 9 corridor, can be seen in the background of several of the pictures.  The solar panel field will supply 25 percent of the power needs of the 14 story building, according to the company spokeswoman, and "have an environmental impact of taking 250 cars off the road."
