Family Dollar Store Opens Today in Avenel

In case you needed another set of salt and pepper shakers....

You can never have enough dollar stores, especially in a bad economy. That must be why another one is opening up in Avenel.

Family Dollar store, part of the one of the largest chain of 99 cent sundry dry good emporiums, is having its grand opening today in Avenel.

The store is located on the site of Blockbuster Video at 1392 St. Georges Avenue, next to . The hours are generous: seven days a week, from 8 am to 10 pm, according to the chain's website.

The building owner bumped out the old Blockbuster after they closed shop last year, and expanded the premises. Those of you who went to Blockbuster will remember it was a fairly big store; the expansion will increase the store size easily by at least 25 percent.

Family Dollar is unlike many of the other dollar stores that blanket Woodbridge. The prices on some items is higher than a dollar - but on the other hand, much of their stock is less than $10.

And business is booming - the Avenel store is one of 22 new stores all having their grand opening today. All told, Family Dollar operates more than 7,000 stores in 44 states.
