Crowds Rush the Malls in After Christmas Spree

If you didn't get what you wanted for Christmas, December 26 was the day to pick up that special 'me' gift.

That was the scene at the day after Christmas, where shoppers descended on stores anxious to get rid of what was left of their post-Christmas inventory. The shoppers who crowded the mall parking lots were glad to help improve stores' bottom line for the end of the year sales.

The mall was closing at its normal 9:30 pm time, but in anticipation of after Christmas day sales - and post Christmas returns - Woodbridge Center opened early to shoppers at 8 am.

More than a few people were there, returning gifts that didn't quite do the trick. "It wasn't what I wanted," said Shanna Myers, who had a white sweater in his Macy's bag she was intent on returning for something more her style.

Myers' friend, Nora, was less diplomatic. "I hate it!" she smiled, referring to a gift she couldn't wait to return at J.C. Penney. "When we're done here, I'm getting rid of this!"

For those who hadn't found what they wanted under the tree, store inventories were full enough to provide a variety of choices more suited to their taste. The crowds packing the mall weren't walking around empty handed.

"I got a nice coat. Great price, too," said Anna Nunoz. "It's just what I wanted, but it's the kind of thing you have to pick out for yourself and try on. Nobody can buy you a coat."
