Avenel Amazon Warehouse Worker Identified

An Irvington man was killed December 4 in in Amazon.com warehouse in Avenel.

A worker killed December 4 in Amazon.com's Avenel warehouse has been identified as a 57-year-old man from Irvington.

According to a Star-Ledger report, the man was Ronald Smith, 57, of Irvington, a temporary employee at Amazon's Avenel fulfillment center.

Smith was killed on the job on December 4 when he was caught between equipment and crushed to death. He was working at the warehouse as a temporary worker, employed through the staffing firm Genco. 

His death is now under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. 

Police Cpt. Roy Hoppock said foul play was not suspected in Smith's death, according to the report.
