Red Molly Kicks Off Summer Concert Series in Woodbridge

Bluegrass/country/folk trio performed at the Parker Press Park for "Woodbridge Wednesdays."

The temperature was hot, causing the audience to be sparser than usual, but “Red Molly” kicked off the Woodbridge summer music series at the Parker Press Park in fine fettle.

The trio of attractive young women, who sang and played folk guitar, steel guitar, and banjo with precision, started the evening with an up-tempo country song, 'Jezebel'.  They performed an assortment of country, folk, and bluegrass music throughout the evening mixed with some light banter. The audience of about 50 fans seemed to enjoy it despite the uncomfortable temperatures outside.

The group consisted of Molly Venter, the newest member, on guitar, Abbie Gardner on steel guitar and banjo, and Lauiie MacAllister also on guitar and banjo.  Each woman sang as a soloist and as back-up singing harmony.  Their voices were pleasant and enjoyable and each was a talented musician as well.

After a rather nice, but mellow, first half, the trio returned joined by an electric bass player.  Molly Venter sang an outstanding rendition of “Fever” with the other two women singing back-up harmony accompanied only by the bass.  This, along with a selection they sang acapella in tight harmony, were two of the best selections on the program.

The trio ended the program with an up-beat number and thanked their following as they departed on a happy note.   A fitting ending to a lovely, cool, and mellow program of music on a nice but extremely hot spring evening.
