LAST CHANCE: Billy Joel Tribute Band Play Woodbridge Tonight

From Piano Man to River of Dreams, rock out to Big Shot and all of the Piano Man's biggest hits

Would you rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints?

Head out to tonight to catch Big Shot, the Long Island-based Billy Joel tribute band that fooled the Piano Man himself, as Joel once told the New York Times that a friend played Big Shot over the phone for him, and he had a hard time believing it wasn’t his own recording.

That perfect imitation of Billy Joel’s signature voice and piano style belongs to Mike DelGuidice, the Big Shot band leader who has worked with Joel himself as well as Roger Daltrey of the Who, Donna Summer, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and more.  In addition to Joel’s hits, DelGuidice and the band are known for throwing in covers of the Beatles, Elton John, Journey, and other piano-driven rock and roll classics.

The show features John Scarpulla on saxophone.  Scarpulla was the featured and lead saxophone in the Tony award-winning Broadway show Movin’ Out, as well as playing sax on tour and in the studio for Hall & Oates, Celine Dion, Tower of Power, Mariah Carey, and more.  Rounding out the band are Tommy Byrnes, Nick Dimichino (formerly of alternative rockers Nine Days), Carmine Giglio, and Mike Sorrentino.

The show, part of the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series, starts at 7:30, and lawn chairs or blankets are advised.  And be sure to bring a non-perishable food item to donate for a chance to win the “Summer Concert Grand Prize.”
