TO BE RESCHEDULED: Centenary Church Hosts Musical Benefit

THIS EVENT WILL BE RESCHEDULED

The Centenary United Methodist Church will host a musical benefit October 29 at 7pm featuring Operantics, a light opera company. The theater company will present a program of musical theater, operetta and opera favorites in the sanctuary of Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 Hillside Avenue, Metuchen. The performance will benefit the church’s general fund.

The benefit will feature “Indian Love Call” from the musical Rose-Marie. Also included in the musical lineup will be duets from The Phantom of the Opera and West Side Story as well as duets and trios from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

Operantics was founded by Janette Goleme and Amy Suznovich. Goleme was co-founder of the Light Opera Theatre of NJ, formerly the Linden Opera Theatre. She has performed and directed opera, operetta and musical theater for a number of years.

Amy Suznovich has also directed opera, operetta and musical theater for many years.

A more recent member of the light theater group is Lester Gesteland whose experience includes singing in operas and musicals in Singapore, Chicago and New York City. Gesteland will be the third producer of the upcoming musical benefit.

The theater group is comprised of professional singers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York City and include Ben Berman, John Calkins, Mary Jane Donovan, Lester Gesteland, Janette Goleme, Yom Don Joo, Tanya Kamens, Alyssa Lehman and Amy Suznovich.

Martin Neron will serve as the accompanist at the featured event and Steve Suznovich will perform the role of narrator. The mission of Operantics is to entertain as it  makes opera accessible to everyone. To this end, it performs as much of its repertoire as possible in English.
