David Johansen Duo Lights up Music on Main

Visit rock history with a founding member of the New York Dolls in a Barron Arts Center concert this Thursday in Woodbridge.

Call it punk rock, New Wave, or glam rock. Whatever it was, David Johansen was there at the beginning. The rocker will be visiting Woodbridge this week.

David Johansen of the eponymous David Johansen Duo is performing at the Barron Arts Center on Thursday, October 11, at the Barron Arts Center. The concert, part of the Music on Main series, begins at 7:30 pm.

Johansen was a member of the famous New York Dolls punk rock group. Founded in 1971, they were the inspiration for many punk rockers to come, including Blondie, the Ramones, and the Talking Heads before their breakup in 1975.

Johansen himself has moved on in the decades since. He morphed in the 1980s into Buster Poindexter, who came up with a minor hit, "Hot Hot Hot". That led to a few movie acting gigs. He's been with other groups, including the Harry Smiths.

The Barron Arts Center concert will include samples from all of Johansen's musical endeavors over the years. Brian Koonin on drums and guitar joins Johansen as part of the performing duo.
