Sandy-Damaged Rest Stop to Be Demolished

The Grover Cleveland Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike has remained partially closed since Hurricane Sandy.

A Turnpike rest stop that was shuttered by Hurricane Sandy damage will be torn down and rebuilt, according to a report in the Star-Ledger.

The Grover Cleveland Service Area, located north of Exit 11 on the northbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike has been closed since Sandy, with the exception of its fuel station, according to the report.

Turnpike officials said Tuesday that the rest stop's restaurant structure would have to be torn down and rebuilt, due to the damage caused by severe flooding from the Woodbridge Creek.

The project is anticipated to cost up to $8 million, according to the report.

The rest stop is not heavily used, but the Turnpike has a large swarth of roadway without a rest stop without it, according to the report.
