"Season Of Giving" Food Drive Gets Off To A Great Start

Woodbridge kicks-off Holiday Food Drive at St. James Roman Catholic Church Food Pantry

Monday marked the kick off of Woodbridge Township’s 2011 “Season of Giving” holiday food drive to replenish the township's food pantries.

Major John McCormac, members of the Town Council, “We Feed Woodbridge” committee members, Bill Caulfield from ShopRite of Woodbridge, and representatives from the township’s food pantries, were present at St. James Food Pantry to encourage residents to donate food to the various pantries. The mayor also presented Bill Caulfield with a check for $2,000 to purchase turkeys for needy residents.

Peggy Catalano, coordinator of St. James pantry, said that although they have enough food in the pantry to last until the middle of January, three to five “regulars” come in for food daily.  If others start coming in, she said, the food will run out quickly if it is not restocked.  The other Woodbridge Township pantries include: Heaven’s Helper Pantry, Woodbridge, Iselin, Avenel, and Woodbridge’s First Presbyterian  Churches, Woodbridge’s Trinity Episcopal Church, Iselin’s Assembly of God Church, Woodbridge’s First Congregation Church, St. Cecelia’s Roman Catholic Church in Iselin, and Elijah’s Bread Food Pantry, Woodbridge.
