Port Reading Residents Gear up to Enjoy Community Day

It's a free day of fun for residents of the Port Reading section of Woodbridge.

Port Reading residents will be lining up Saturday, Oct. 1, for an afternoon celebration of life in their hometown.

The Port Reading Community Day epic event is slated to begin at 1 pm and run until 4 pm at Port Reading School #9's playground and the adjoining park on Turner Ave. The afternoon of fun is free.

There will be live music - Jersey Rhythm and Sound is expected, among other acts - along with food, drink, and vendors. The kids will be taken care of, too, since there will be slides, rock walls, and other such amusements to keep them busy.

The event will be well funded: sponsors such as Hess, PSE&G, and Mayor John McCormac's personal charity have donated $1,000 each to make the day a success.

The list of sponsors at the event reads like a directory of Port Reading organizations and businesses. At varying financial levels, they include: Danny's Automotive, The Learning Center, M.A.S. Masonry and Construction, Albaline Paper Products, the Port Reading Saints, and St. Anthony's Church.

Also sponsoring the event are Island Transportation Corp., Chubenko Funberal Home, and the local Krauszer's. Both of Port Reading's volunteer organizations - the Port Reading Volunteer Fire Company #1 and the Port Reading First Aid Squad - have lent a hand as well.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, Oct. 2. For more info, go to the Port Reading Community Day Facebook page.
