Memorial Day Festivities Bring Families Together

Families all around Woodbridge gathered in their backyards, front decks, and neighborhood parks in honor of the holiday.

Hundreds of Woodbridge residents celebrated Memorial Day - the traditional beginning of summer - this weekend with an old-fashioned family picnic and barbeque in Merrill Park.

The barbecues and grills were filled with Β sizzling burgers and hotdogs, and every single picnic table had its share of watermelons, plastic utensils, coolers, and lots and lots of food. Family members who hadn't seen each other in months chatted together, bursting out in hearty laughter, while their children scribbled chalk on the sidewalks, played in the park, and competed in friendly games of hopscotch.

May Borja was relaxing in Merrill ParkΒ with her extended family Sunday. They recalled old memories and enjoyed savoring food together.

The Esposito family was having their 42nd Annual Family Reunion and Picnic at Merrill Park. Uncle Benny Esposito, who is one of the organizers in putting together the entire event every year, joked around with his family members, who ranged in age from infants to grandparents.

The Espositos'Β reunion had fun activities planned including an egg toss and a rope climbing and swinging competition. They had a full-size volleyball net set-up for friendly volleyball games, and even called in a clown to entertain some of the younger children.
