Main St. Fair Overcomes a Grey Day to Draw Crowds

Moody skies didn't stop hundreds of township residents from shopping the booths and sampling the wares at Saturday's fair.

The skies were less than azure, and the sun was on a weekend furlough, but it didn't stop hundreds of residents and their families from taking a hike on Main St. for the season's first fair event.

The downtown in Woodbridge was roped off for dozens of booths that lined both sides of Main Street. Offerings ranged from freebies for onlookers, crafty home decor items, and home improvement companies looking for a sale, to henna decorating and the latest hair decorations. 

Of course, there were tons of food items, from traditional lemonade and pretzels, to more exotic fare. Fair goers munched, chatted, and shopped while a local DJ provided music at the School St. intersection. Main St. was blocked to vehicle traffic from Amboy Ave., where a huge multicolored slide

The VFW was selling poppies in honor of Memorial Day, and reminders that election day isn't far off showed via Mayor John McCormac's rented storefront for his reelection effort this November.

From the crowds' seeming pleasure and the business pitchmen were doing, a good time was apparently being had by all.
