The flag hoisting comes one week after a pair of parades – one in Edison, one in Iselin – to celebrate Indian independence. It was the of split parades, though the first time both parades stepped off on the same day, as last year’s march in Edison was postponed due to inclement weather.
Before last year, a single parade had been held straddling both towns, before a dispute between the Indian Business Assosciation (Iselin) and the Oak Tree Indian Business Association (Edison) resulted in the split parades.
