Geese (Yes, Geese!) at Leisure Park in Woodbridge Center Parking Lot

Fortunoff's may have closed three years ago, but that big parking lot isn't going to waste.

It's not unusual for wildlife to become rather tame around human beings, but the flock of geese who congregate at the old Fortunoff parking lot at give new meaning to the word.

A gaggle of geese have turned the parking lot into their private resort. They take long, leisurely walks, looking for the stray pizza crust, and the occasional car isn't a worry for them.

Even a "No Stopping or Standing" sign doesn't disturb the geese repose in the fire lane outside Fortunoff's, which closed in 2009.

Several pairs of the winged birds have found a home outside the long closed housewares store. That end of the mall doesn't get a lot of traffic, so there's little reason for them to move; but even when a car does come by, the geese don't fly off.

Drivers smile as they see the long necked geese, who ignore most human traffic.

Today, takes place at Woodbridge Center near Dick's Sporting Goods, the closest store to Fortunoff. Fire engines, oil rigs, EMS vehicles and the like will be open for kids to jump on board, blow horns and sit in the driver's seat.

Will all that nearby racket disturb the geese? Not by the look of it as these pictures show.

Please note I initially identified our feathered friends as ducks. They are, as some readers have said, geese. The story has been changed to reflect that. I will also be enrolling in an Audobon Society class asap!
