More About Trinity Episcopal Church
One of the two oldest churches in New Jersey's oldest township, Trinity Episcopal Church has a long and storied history. The present stone church, which replaced one destroyed by fire, was consecrated in 1861. With very few modifications, it remains the same as the day it was erected.
In 1713, Benjamin Dunham led an effort to establish a permanent church, since services were being held in the family's home. The Dunham house was purchased by the church in 1872 and still serves as the church's rectory.
The church has adult and children's choirs, a women's association, Sunday School, Bible and educational classes that meet throughout the year.
Despite its antiquity, Trinity Church has a very modern presence in Woodbridge. Its outreach to the needy includes support groups, a food pantry and the township's only soup kitchen, which serves meals on Fridays from noon to 1pm.
The Rev. Robert B. Counselman has been rector of Trinity Church since 1981.
