More About James Parker Press Park

James Parker Press Park

James Parker Press Park

428 Rahway Ave, Woodbridge, NJ
732-634-4500

The Parker Press Park is a noble effort. The small park and the recreation of a printing press office on it was built in 1976 as an attempt to pay tribute to James Parker, a Revolutionary War patriot and a Woodbridge Founding Father.

Thing is, nobody knows exactly where his printing press was located, so the Rahway Ave. site is a good compromise.

Parker brought the first printing press to New Jersey. He was a printing colleague of Benjamin Franklin, and Parker published New Jersey's first magazine. He also printed broadsides, books, and even New Jersey currency, with a distinctive tobacco leaf on it and the words, "To Counterfit Is To Die."

But like his printing press, nobody knows exactly where he is buried. It's somewhere in the White Church cemetery, but the headstone disappeared long ago.

The park is fenced off and opened irregularly. It host arts and crafts festivals, children's events, beer fests, and serves as a Civil War encampment.
