OBIT: Ernest L. Oros, former Assemblyman
The former Woodbridge councilman, state assemblyman, and co-founder of Woodbridge River Watch, has died at age 88.
Ernest L. Oros, 88, of Fords, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Known to friends and family as 'Ernie,' Oros was born in Phillipsburg and had lived in Woodbridge Township for the last 66 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a corporal in the Marine Corp where his principal duty was a Rifle Marksman Instructor.
Oros was a purchasing agent with Molnar Electric in Woodbridge and Lightning Electric in Springfield before retiring in 1988. He served as a Councilman-at-Large for Woodbridge Township for two terms and was also a 19th Legislative District Assemblyman from 1992 through 1996.
Along with being cofounder of Woodbridge River Watch program, Oros was the past president of both the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club and Kiddie Keepwell Camp in Edison.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Beatrice (Caton) Oros; his three sons, Michael E. Oros and his wife Lynn of Orefield, PA, Richard Oros and his wife Sharon of Bridgewater, and Jay Oros and his wife Lenora of Monroe, along with four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 10 am at Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc. at 531 New Brunswick Ave. in Fords. Interment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NJ.
Visitation hours will be held Friday from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm.
