Middlesex Greenway Opens Saturday

The former railroad is now a garden for Woodbridge, Metuchen, and Edison residents.

It's 'rails to trails' - the transformation of the old Lehigh Valley railroad corridor into a lush oasis for Middlesex County residents is complete.

The 3.5 miles of renovated acreage, the Middlesex Greenway, is going to be dedicated this Saturday, September 15, at 11 am. The dedication will be held at the trailhead, located at the intersection of Middlesex Avenue and Memorial Parkway in Metuchen.

Middlesex County freeholders and dignitaries from all three towns touched by the Greenway will be on hand for the dedication ceremonies.

The Greenway spans the , through Metuchen, and into Edison. It's been almost 10 years since the property was transferred to Middlesex County, and now it'll be open as a biking, walking, and nature preserve for all county residents to enjoy.

The Edison Greenways Group has been instrumental in keeping the project alive and on target. Future plans call for the greenway extension to Somerset County in one direction and Perth Amboy in the other, the group said on their website.
