Mayor Makes Youtube Video to Address Woodbridge Residents Still Without Power
The lights are slowing coming on in the township.
Nothing stops a Woodbridge Council meeting - not even when Hurricane Sandy blows off part of the metal mansard roof off Town Hall and causes a huge metal canopy to crash into the steps where the public accesses the building.
Woodbridge had council meeting scheduled for Tuesday night, only hours after the Sewaren section of the township was devastated by the winds and massive storm surge. Much of the township was without power Tuesday night, and one of the many traffic lights that were inoperable was one left dangling by a wire at the corner of Main Street and Amboy Avenue.
Most residents were busy trying to clear up the trees and branches, and learning to live in the dark due to a power failure that hit almost everyone in the township Monday night.
Still, the council meeting was held as scheduled.
"I'm very happy to report that there have been no casualties so far in Woodbridge Township," Mayor John McCormac said in a video apparently taken during the council meeting and posted Wednesday on Youtube.
The town's website was updated three times since before the storm began.
The mayor's Hurricane Sandy updated included the mention that residents should register with the Reverse 911 registry, where they can receive phone calls in the event of an emergency. McCormac also announced that trash pickup would be moved up one day throughout the township.
Public works employees have already removed 200 trees, he said, but "there are 300 more on the list." Vegetation near power lines was being given priority.
"Fire companies are pumping out basements all over town," McCormac said.
PSEG is trying to get the lights on, but they've been impacted by the flooding of the Sewaren and Linden substations.
"They have not given us an indication of any time in any section of the town," McCormac said, about when power would be restored.

How much more money did they appropriate with their "Resolutions", while the public was trying to keep life and limb in tack.
Mac and company (Admin./Council) never miss a photo op, so why would they for one of the worst storms on record?
Bet they read their NEVER Changing Agenda (all in order, of course) and spoke about how great a job they are all doing!
Anyone wonder why they weren't out helping their neighbors and constituents, many of whom had no electric and may have had severe water and/or wind damage, instead of holding another one of their rubber stamping, Kumbaya get togethers!
Hopefully, all the donkeys in Mac's corral had food, water and shelter! Perhaps, the damage to the exterior of One Main Street came from the big winds inside, not from Hurricane Sandy!
On the serious side, the community owes a deep debt of gratitude to our police, fire, EMS, township workers and volunteers for all they did and are doing as a result of Hurricane Sandy!
Does anyone know how bad the Woodbridge Animal Shelter was flooded and what happened to all the animals? What about the 300k oil spill in Sewaren?

Woodbridge shelter's facebook page said all the animals are safe but the basement and first floor flooded destroying everything.

depends which electric grid your on.... i believe sewaren substation failure is reason for no power port reading, avenel and part of WB......

Aaaannnnddd how was I supposed to watch this with no power?? I want to know what they did to prepair. No sandbags, no nothing....

I LIVE IN SEWAREN AND I KNOW THERE WERE NO EFORTS MADE BEFORE THE STORM!

Tom Maras: You hit the nail on the head with 1 main street, there is only hot air in that building. It shows with the way the Roof panels blew of the building. After seeing that, i now no when the building sub code division signed off on the repairs that were done at Wyndmoor & Woodbridge, It's time to Dump this place and get the hell out of here. The johnny Mac crew is like a ship without a rudder.
