Linden Man Arrested in Colonia Home Invasion
Brandon M. Soares of Linden was picked up by Woodbridge police and charged with terrorizing and robbing two Colonia women.
A 19-year-old Linden man was arrested just hours after he allegedly invaded a Colonia home and terrorized an elderly, bedridden woman and a 15-year-old girl.
Brandon M. Soares, 19, was picked up at his mother's Linden home after he had spent the morning threatening two Colonia residents. Police said that they received a phone call on Friday, April 13, at approximately 9:46 am from a woman in the Broadway Avenue section of Colonia.
According to Woodbridge police, Soares gained entry to the home and struggled with the 15-year-old girl and threatened her with a knife. After subduing the girl, police said Soares tied her up and demanded money, repeatedly threatening to kill her if she didn't cooperate.
The suspect eventually untied the girl and left, but not before he made off with a gold necklace he tore from the girl's neck, prescription drugs, and a $50 bill.
In the struggle, the girl sustained non-life threatening injuries. Woodbridge Police Captain Roy Hoppock said the girl was "shaken up, but in otherwise good condition."
The bedridden woman was not harmed, he said.
Hoppock would not say if the girl knew Soares, who claims on his Facebook page to be a 2010 graduate of Colonia High School. He did say that Soares has no adult criminal record, but he wasn't certain if he had committed any juvenile offenses.
Police picked up Soares at his mother's home several hours after the incident and charged him with multiple felonies, including kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon, possession of burglary tools, and other charges.
He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Facility in North Brunswick on $200,000 bail. Soares will have to put up the entire amount to get out of jail, Hoppock said. The court did not allow a 10 percent option because of the gravity of the charges.
Soares goes by the name of 'Grim Havok' on his Facebook page, where he has several disturbing posts and images that appear to have negative connotations towards women. On March 30, he reposted a picture of pop singer Rhianna after her boyfriend, singer and rap artist Chris Brown, allegedly beat her.
Soares comment above that picture is to laugh.
On February 25, he posted, " "why do gooooood giiiiiiiiiirls .. like baaaaad guuuuuyss?" .. because they're [expletive] dumb."
The same day, Soares posted on his Facebook wall: "People take doing something for fun out of boredom so serious for nothing, if you don't like the [expletive] don't [expletive] read it and remove me. Simple as that."

1. 19 years old is not a child.
2. He didn't steal a car or write a bad check- he threatened to kill someone. Pretty big "mistake".
3. Bet he has done other troubling things that you don't know of. Drug abuse? Killing small animals?
4. He is troubled, and deserves to be in prison.
People like you are enablers. face it- this "kid" is a criminal.

Hopefully the experience won't scar her. I really feel for her and hope she gets the help she needs to overcome it.

Monster???
Do you know him? Do you know the family? Did you ever meet him? Hang with him? Are you a mind reader? Do you know what he was thinking? Or what he was feeling? Did you ever make mistakes in your life? Have you ever felt under pressure? Do you have kids? Have you ever had someone betray you in life? Think someone was your friend just to back stab you? Go through life thinking no one cares/loves or even hates you?
NO, I'M NOT DEFENDING THIS BOY/MAN BUT TRY TO PUT YOURSELF IN HIS SHOES, THINK OF THOSE QUESTIONS I ASKED.... Maybe something snapped in his mind, just fell off the deep end..... YOU DON'T KNOW!!!
On the other hand my heart goes out to the family who was victimized . I'm glad there were no serious injuries or harm. May you all get mentally over this issue. God Bless you all.

Nobody has to point any fingers. This guy pointed a knife at a 15 year old girl he tied up & threatened to kill her. Plenty of people have traumatic things happen to them and they don't resort to burglary & kidnapping. We know what we need to know, and we'll comment where we please (until SCOTUS rules the first amendment is unconstitutional). There are plenty of good things on Patch. It's Soares' fault that this story ended up here, not the reporter's.

I knew this kid and had clases with him, he infact isn't a terrible kid at all.. this is too shocking. But don't judge somebody you don't know. Everyone is so quick to judge someone else without knowing them, and that just goes with the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" you have no idea waht he could have been going through at that moment OR for however long. And if this was somebody in your family you wouldn't be talking shit . IT COULD HAVE BEEN WAY WORSE than what actually happend but it wassnt what's so monsterous about that ? 4. The paper tells you, he untied the 15 yr before leaving the home DOING NO HARM!!!
Hoppock wasn't certain if he had committed any juvenile offenses........ NO, SOARES' HAS NO JUVI RECORD!!!

"How can he terrorize a bed ridden elderly women if he was dealing with a 15 yr old girl?"
Well, if you're bedridden and someone breaks into your home in what police call a home invasion, and you hear struggling and screaming going on in the next room, I'd imagine being terrorized would be a normal reaction.
I don't know that the woman was asleep; I'd make an educated guess she probably wasn't for long if a struggle was going on in the house.
Tracy B
5:34 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2012
Really Deborah....... Nothing was said that the elderly women had commented on anything...... Nothing was said that she heard anything.......
Maybe you need to ((speak in the context)) that "Although the elderly women was in the home, the police made comment to her making any statement!! As is stands it is led to believe the elderly women might have been asleep and didn't her the struggle going on."
Deborah Bell

Second off........You want me to elaborate on my statement after you made the comment . "Although the elderly women was in the home, the police made comment to her making any statement!!

Deborah Bell

Tracy, I was quoting YOU, not me! That's why there are quote marks! Not MY quote, yours.
I don't know what, if anything, the bedridden woman said to police. I don't know if she was sleeping; unless you were there, neither do you. But let's assume she was asleep. Unless she was in a coma, it's reasonable to assume all the activity involved in a struggle - pushing, shoving, hollering, furniture moving or falling - where the victim wound up tied up and injured would have woken the woman up.

That doesn't explain why a 19 year old man was hanging out with a 15 year old girl.

I have to laugh at how everyone is calling a 19 year old a man.. I don't consider anyone under 21 a man or a woman... 19 year olds still have alot to learn in life.. So I guess you were a 19 year old that was stubborn and swore they knew everything about life... SMH... All these kids grew up together in the same neighborhood stupid!

Friends of Suares: What's wrong with you people? Ignorance is bliss! You are all trying your best to defend Suares' character and saying that "only God can judge"! But there is going to be one more Judge involved...the one that's going to sentence Suares' Evil ass to a very long time in jail, Boo Hoo, where you can all visit him and kiss his ass and tell him what a good "kid" he is! Everyone is trying to get the last word here, but thank God (remember Him) the last word in this story is going to be GUILTY!!! Suares will be judged in court and in HELL!!
As for the victims...They are a close-knit, loving family. There aren't "MULTIPLE" things going on in the house. Nice try Lindsey TylerMarie,. Trying to mar the reputation of good people because your friends case is hopeless! No children are ever left unsupervised! The Grandmother has trouble getting around and hardly ever leaves the house. She heard noise but thought it was the TV. And no, the 15 year old is not friends with Suares. She doesn't associate with Low-lifes!! Any other questions need clearing up?

Look lady (Marilena)... I only read one sentence you wrote.... Are ignorance was taught by you in this matter... You obviously have no life to where you sent this article to hundreds of people on Facebook... So you just have no life and like to start drama... You took the extra mile to post this article everywhere so opinion is nothing. You just like gossip like the rest of your little white collar friends that have their heads stuck in (well lets say a bucket) because you prissy self have nothing else better to do than gossip about others... BYE LADY!!!

Now I read your whole comment... How many years have you known the victims... lol... Really lady.. your clueless... Nice Job.. you almost sounded convincing... I have personally gone there and helped that woman (before she became bedridden and was still in the wheelchair) get order in her house... So don't try it!!! Go back to gossipville!!! Like I said before you sent this article to a couple hundred people on FB cause you have no life... So if you consider us low lives... I guess your just jealous because you have no life what so ever. So go and break bread with someone who will believe you!

Well said my friend!!!! Animals belong behind bars. His lowlife hoodlum friends trying to defend him is just plain disgusting. It is said "Birds of a feather DO flock together" With their attitude they'll be in the same boat shortly. LOL
All we need is one (just one) punk that breaks into the wrong home, the home where the gun resides. I can't wait for that day.

I honestly feel like people would say anything to build a case.... If your going to list all the things that could have gave anyone clues as to what he was capable of doing don't start by saying he posted a effing pic of Rihanna when her bf kicked her as$. Let's all be real... Who has reposted something like that. If your gonna make a case talk about real ish.... Brandon seemed to be normal... Let's take a tour around out community and see what the teenagers are into.... He was into what almost every teenager is into. The only difference is that he didn't have a string back bone at home. Although it isn't his patents fault for the actions he committed, it starts somewhere. Brandon came across like he was dangerous. MONSTER!!! do you really think that he's a MONSTER??? a MONSTER would have not only robbed them but would have took the next step. He acted on desperation.

I dont understand how you can defend his actions at all. He is a grown ass man who made a choice to do what he did. How can you feel bad for him? Would you feel bad if it was you tied up, and he had a knife threatening to kill you? No I don't think so. I don't know the whole story and none of you actually do so this needs to stop. Just because your his 'friend' doesn't mean anything. He can and will lie to who ever asks him what happened. Im not saying he's a monster, but I do think he needs to be in jail and learn his lesson. He's obviously on drugs or something too. All I know is I went to school with him and he creeped me the hell out. He also stole money from my friend, so thats how I know he's not all that great of a person. Just because you saw him around school and he seemed like Mr. Wonderful, doesn't mean anything people. Looks can be deceiving.

Well than the 15 year old girl should stop changing her stories. I've known both families for about 10 years... Mrs. Marilena... If your that old... Act like it. And if you known the family that long... Then you know all the problems those girl put S----- through and what they put their grandparents through and the 15 year old wasn't even shook up that much... But Marilena you know that already then since you know the family that well. My point was the story published above bent the truth a little.. Yes for what he is found guilty of ... he should be punished but as for the story getting blown out of the water and extended with different endings popping up here and there.... It's not the whole truth. And again... a 15 year old does not have a nursing degree and that 15 year old really doesn't have the level of intelligence to care for an elderly woman on her own.

@Danielle Mahon
Get over yourself. Stop defending TRASH. Nowhere in the law does it say the girl needs a nursing degree to tend to her grandmother. People like you are what's wrong with the world. All the whinning you can do is not going to change anyone's mind.
Bird of a feather DO flock together.

@Marilena Celii LaBarbera you think you are really smart . first off , i don't care if you knew that family for 40 years . and like i stated earlier , i did know brandon since we were little kids in elementry school . and whoever said earlier about him killing little animals , yer just a sicko . he never did that . me and him were actually in a critter club together and we had hamsters together . like i said , he was the sweetest kid . and whoever said earlier that he stole money from someone in school so that made him a bad kid , thats bullcrap . i can name multiple kids in school who stole another kids cell phone or money or anything else . doesnt make anyone a bad kid . sometimes people act out of desperation . doesnt mean anything . all of you people on here are trying to make legit points but none of you actualy are . the way that you are talking about every little move that this kid made , every single teenager has done something close to those things . its a teenage thing . and your sitting here trying to act like there are rediculous things on his facebook . if you read , that picture of rihanna was REPOSTED . which means that he reposted it from another person on facebook . he didnt make it . its the internet people , chill the hell out . im sure yu laughed at something inappropriate in your life so just stop trying to make him look like a bad person . and like danielle said , that girl needs to get her story straight and stop changing it every 2 minutes .

What is wrong with you? You say that "i can name multiple kids in school who stole another kids cell phone or money or anything else . doesnt make anyone a bad kid . sometimes people act out of desperation . doesnt mean anything"...
Why isn't stealing from someone else a big deal to you? Desperation (as you call it) DOES NOT EXCUSE anyone from doing it. Stealing from someone else DOES make you a bad kid, whatever the reason- why can;t you see that? It means somehting to the person that was stolen from... wow, you amaze me.

I went to school with and lived on the same street with Brandon. He was a normal kid with problems just like any of you peoples kids. There's no telling what exactly influenced Brandon to do what he did whether it was drugs or the people around him. Everybody makes mistakes that could lead to bigger problems like this one. He went down a bad path. It happens to the best of us. You would be surprised what percentage of "normal" people think of doing monstrous things like this everyday. Im sorry to hear my old friend Brandon messed up and hopefully he gets his life together in there the way I did. And to all you narrow minded punks that look down on him. I hope u someday have to live his life and feel whatever pressure he felt and I hope u have to go to that damn jail and even prison. It's so sick in there. The things it does to the human mind are sick. If you never been to hell don't wish it upon somebody else. Nobody here knows what he needed the money for or whether or not it was a life or death situation for him because things like that happen everyday in jersey and a lot of you perfect life people walk by it everyday.

It's all fun and games til someone ends up dead. Wanna talk about karma? Brandon made some choices, his choices where life changingly bad, society has a set of rules,we call them laws, Brandon broke several of them with the choices he made, he now has to face the repercussions of said choice's which will probably include jail time, that's karma. That said...
There is no justification whatsoever for someone to break into someone else's property and steal or cause harm to it's owners, like I stated earlier, he's lucky to be alive.

Listen, non of you know the real deal..... I'm friends with the mother and have been by her side from the beginning. None of you know the truth but I do know that this article was beefed up to make Brandon look worse off then what happened, THAT'S A FACT!!! I do not care what the reporter of this article has to say the whole truth is NOT here........
IT WAS NOT THE GIRL WHO CALLED THE COPS!!! THE GIRL ACTUALLY LET HIM GO AND WAS NOT GOING TO SAY A WORD!!!! Someone else called, unknown as to who......
As for your comment BobDee...... Yes he is lucky to be alive con-cindering the facts that were left behind in his plan... THERE IS PROOF TO HIS PLAN AND IN HIS OWN ADMISSIONS!!!
SO SEEING THAT NONE OF YOU KNOW THE REAL STORY, YOU KNOW PARTIAL TRUTH, TAKE THE SIDE OF A FAULTS STORY PRINTED...... WHY DON'T YOU ALL WAIT TO SEE WHAT REALLY HAPPENS AND WHAT THE REAL TRUTH IS BEFORE SETTING HIS SENTENCE!!!!
