Never let it be said Andrew McCarthy ever rested on his laurels.

The famous Brat Pack star from such 80s movie hits as Pretty in Pink, Less Than Zero, and St. Elmo's Fire, McCarthy continued his career into television and theatre. But beyond that, the New Jersey native also reinvented himself as a professional travel writer. McCarthy is an editor-at-large for National Geographic Traveler, aside from having written for dozens of other publications.

McCarthy's left his mark all over central New Jersey. Born in Westfield, McCarthy grew up Bernardsville and attended the Pingry School. He's also penned a memoir, "The Longest Way Home."

McCarthy is returning to the Garden State on Sunday, March 3. He'll be the spotlight artist at "An Afternoon with Andrew McCarthy," a fundraiser being held by the Friends of the Metuchen Library.

The event will be at the Forum Theatre at 314 Main Street from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.FOTML.org, in person at the Metuchen Public Library (480 Middesex Avenue, Metuchen) or at Marafiki Fair Trade (20 New Street, Metuchen). The book can be purchased at Buy the Book at the Metuchen Public Library.

A 'meet and greet' with McCarthy will be held at 1 pm on the day of the program. Ticket price options are:

• $12/person for a ticket.
• $40/person for one ticket plus one place at the 1pm meet & greet with Andrew.
• $75 for two individual tickets plus two places at the 1pm meet & greet with Andrew McCarthy.
