Gas Station Bandit Arrested After a Second Hit on an Avenel Gas Station

Woodbridge police arrested Arthur Allen Montague, 27, of Avenel for two different robberies of gas stations, right down the street from where he lives.

 


A man being held in the Tuesday robbery of an Avenel gas station may be the same robber who held up another Avenel gas station back in December.

Woodbridge police arrested Arthur Allen Montague, 27, of Avenel on suspicion of the armed robbery of the BP gas station on Route 1 South on January 15 at 8:13 pm.

Police said a white male wearing a black hoodie pulled down around his face appeared at the BP station and confronted the attendant while holding a knife on him. The robber demanded all the attendant's money, plus two cartons of cigarettes grabbed from a box on the floor. 

The suspect, police said, grabbed a white cordless phone and fled in an apparent attempt to keep the gasoline station attendant from calling for help. The attendant wasn't injured in the robbery.

An immediate search of the area brought police to Montague's door, which was at City Motel on Route 1 where he resides, just down the road from the BP station he robbed. The cigarettes and money was found nearby.

A further investigation resulted in Montague being charged in the December 19, 2012 holdup of a Fuel One gas station, also located on Route 1 in Avenel.

Montague was charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon, and two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility in North Brunwick, where he is being held on $40,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

when you go for visitiation with your "man" please bring bail money and take his butt out of Avenel. I just keep hoping another business will come in and buy out more of these properties and close the motels like Wawa did!

I'm just wondering how she can afford to support this child while her "man" is in jail? She seems like a lot of the other parents i deal with on a daily basis! Her child is just another "paycheck" if she even qualifies for government assistance, that she is most likely not even entitled to. As for her man, I hope he sits in jail for a long time and really thinks about what he was doing for "his son"! Oh he's sorry, he's sorry, he's sorry. How many times have we all heard that these type of people are great parents and then DCF comes in and proves them wrong. To be honest, if DCF wanted to come in and take your child they would. Your husband, who actually is not your husband, is not a good man. He did not do what he did for his son, he did it because he thought he could get away with it. He was terribly mistaken apparently, and I personally hope he rots in a jail cell for a very long time, thinking how sorry he was/is that he did what he never should have done. If it were up to me personally, I would make sure that he NEVER EVER saw his son ever again, then how sorry would he be?

Hey Mayor M, how about getting rid of all these trash motels along the highway, instead of adding to our problems with a pot dispensing store? They bring nothing but trouble, and have done so for dozens of years. I live in a lovely little Avenel neighborhood with wonderful neighbors, unfortunately we are 3 blocks from these dumps. Do you know how many cars, houses, garages and sheds have been robbed? Almost every culprit was living at these motels. Do you know how many times the sheriff's dept (BTW Thanks everyone!) has had to go door-to-door to warn everyone a sex offender moved into one of these places??? Take some action, before a real tragedy occurs.

Can't figure out if I'm glad or sad that AJ is back in jail again. He should have taken the help he was offered at his sentencing on 2/8/08 verse being a cocky SOB and stating with his victims present in the court room "No I don't need or want any help, I don't have a problem...just send me to NJ State Prisons and let me get this over with"
