Five Things: Nutcrackers for the Holidays!
A movie and a play, both local, to bring in the Christmas season.
- See the Nutcracker in the movies,, a beloved holiday tradition for generations of families around the globe, which will be shown in HD tonight at the Digiplex Rialto Theater in Westfield. The performance is courtesy of the Royal Ballet of London. Tickets are $15 and can be bought via their website.
- Or see the 'Nutcracker and I' live. But this is a comedy, being shown at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick tonight at 8 pm. The new holiday event is by Emmy Award winner Peter Brash and Gerard Alessandrini, author of the long-running hit “Forbidden Broadway.” This send-up of the holiday classic features Tchaikovsky’s music and follows the adventures of a girl who gets the lead in her town’s production of “The Nutcracker” but breaks her leg in an accident during rehearsal. - It's not too late to buy Tenor Tickets at the State Theatre in New Brunswick. The tenor trio Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan will perform in The Irish Tenors Christmas Reunion 2011 on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Ticket prices range from $32 to $97. The trio is best known for performing traditional Irish music and have reunited to sing classic holiday songs backed by the 30-piece World Festival Symphony Orchestra. - Don't forget pictures with Santa. It's being offered at Woodbridge Center during mall hours through Dec. 24. For more information, visit the shopping center website.
- Food donations are still needed. Drop off non-perishable food items at the Woodbridge Community Center, as part of the "We Feed Woodbridge" program that helps replenish and stock the township's 11 food banks.
