Crook Grabs Range Rover at Woodbridge ATM
It's not a good idea to keep the car running when you aren't in it.
A man who stopped to withdraw money at a local ATM lost his Range Rover in the process, Woodbridge Police said.
On Wednesday, an Edison man pulled into the TD Bank on St. Georges Avenue in Woodbridge around 8 pm to withdraw some cash from the bank's ATM.
He kept his 2008 white Range Rover RRV running in the parking lot with the door open while he ran to the cash machine in the bank. Within the few moments it took him to extract cash from the bank, a thief absconded with his vehicle.
The man phoned police, who went out to the scene to take a statement. The vechile was indeed gone and nowhere in sight.
The police entered the data on the vehicle into a nationwide stolen vehicle database.

A 1998 Range Rover is worth about $5k. I guess that's worth going to jail for "those" people.

It was actually a 2008 Range Rover. What's that worth?

Who leaves a car door open with it running, especially a Range Rover? What an idiot. Probably an insurance scam.

You'd be surprised; a cop told me that someone left the car running, door unlocked, at the Quick Chek next to town hall, and the car got stolen! You can't much closer to the police station unless you parked in their lobby!

Stupid! That's just asking for your car to be stolen.

Not sure if insurance even covers the loss if "left car door open" is in the police report.

Jojo, believe it or not, most insurance companies would pay. My husband's an agent, and he says, "There's no stupidity exclusion."

Instead of criticizing the guy who left it running, you all ought to be lamenting the fact that these days it's necessary to even worry about this kind of stuff happening in Woodbridge. Who among those of us who grew up in Woodbridge would have ever thought we'd have bail bondsmen and paycheck loan storefronts in town.

Gordo,
Sorry, but what the driver did was naieve and stupid. No matter where you live, there will be people ready to pounce on opportunites like this one, so I have no idea what the driver was thinking, except they were too lazy to take the keys out and (my goodness) have to re-start the car!
Learning experience for the driver- do not trust anyone. This is not the 1950's.

make an extra key and keep it in your pocket if you want to keep your car running--very simple.

F.Y.I.---for a large banking company--this particular ATM machine is the slowest i've ever been to--the machines in your local quick stop stores are twice as fast.
